COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT – APRIL 28, 2023

Over the next few weeks, PTPC will be conducting a maintenance project where we will be dredging our settlement ponds. This activity may stir up pockets of materials that would temporarily add to the normal odors emanating from that area. None of this odor is associated with current processes or with hazardous emissions. None of the additional odor is due to emissions that are toxic or dangerous to human health. We ask that our neighbors bear with us as we continue our efforts to operate the mill in an environmentally responsible manner. We appreciate your patience and shared concern during this time.

As the largest private employer in the area with the most full-time jobs, we have a tremendous responsibility toward helping to keep the community a wonderful place to live.

Company employees deserve much credit for making this possible. The high quality of our pulp and paper products is the result of the skill and conscientious endeavors of our people who have made Port Townsend their home and have helped create a community of which we can be proud.

But Port Townsend Paper Company contributes more to the community than the $27 million it puts into the local economy. Many of our mill employees are personally involved in the community.

Port Townsend Paper makes a 50% match to its employees’ considerable contributions to United Good Neighbors (UGN), a local service organization. The mill’s contribution to UGN is a long-standing tradition and a point of pride.

Education has always been a mill priority too. The company often participates in internship programs and provides educational programs to school children, and works with educational organizations. Our technical, environmental and paper machine departments often take on interns as project needs arise. If you are interested in an internship with the mill, please see our Employment Page for more information about how to inquire.

Port Townsend Paper maintains active memberships on teams that address local environmental issues such as the Climate Action Committee. To read more about our commitment to the environment, health, and safety, please read our Sustainability Statement. We provide specialized safety training to our employees, local emergency response teams and others.

The Company participates in many other groups and on many other projects that support community businesses, economics, education, and youth activities. Among these are the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council, Jefferson Land Trust, Jefferson County Historical Society, Jefferson Healthcare Foundation, Northwind Arts Center, Fort Discovery for Wounded Warriors, All County Picnic, Jefferson County Fair, Port Townsend Independence Day Celebration, and others.
